How to Know God

Recognize that you need God

First, you must admit your spiritual need. Romans 3:10 tells us “There is none righteous, no, not one.” We can’t make excuses or blame others and our circumstances for our actions. Romans 3:23 says “For all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God.” You need to recognize that we’ve all sinned against God—including you.

Recognize that Jesus Christ died on the cross for you

1 Peter 3:18 says:

“For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God…” Jesus paid the price for your sin. The Apostle Paul said in Galatians 2:20: “…the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”

Repent of your sins

The word “repent” means “to change your direction.” The Bible tells us in Acts 3:19:

“Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord.”

God commands us to repent. You must be willing to turn away from the things that displease God.

Accept Jesus as your Savior

Jesus said in Matthew 11:28
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” It is essential that you come to Jesus as you are. Don’t try to “clean up your life” before you come to God. Instead, receive Him and allow Him to do the “cleansing.” Jesus said in John 6:37: “All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out.”

If you have chosen to accept Christ as your Savior—congratulations!
You have just made the best decision of your life.

Please share your decision with one of the pastors or prayer team the next time you are in a weekend service or contact the office. Let us help you with the resources and relationships you need to flourish as a child of God.

When you prayed, committing your life to Christ, what happened?

Jesus said,

“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock.  If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.”  Revelation 3:20

What did Jesus say He would do if you asked Him into your life? “I will forgive you.”
The Bible says,
“Yet to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.”  John 1:12
What happened when you received Him?
You became one of God’s children.
The Bible says,
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
Now that you believe in Jesus Christ and have asked Him to forgive your sins, what can you be certain of? You have eternal life.
How do you know…

…you are saved?
…you are a child of God?
…you have eternal life?
I know because…

God said it…in His Word, the Bible
I believe it…in my heart
That settles it…in my mind.

Get involved in a Local Church

You can’t be an effective Christian on your own. While personal Bible study is extremely important to your spiritual growth, you also need to make a regular practice of going to church.
Why is Church so important? For one thing, Jesus Himself established the church (see Matthew 16:18). The church is not just a building, but an assembly of people who believe (as Peter said in Matthew 16:16) that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God.
So, why go to church? Because being involved in a local church is a vital part of growing in your Christian faith. You need a place where you will be encouraged and instructed. You need a place where you can give out what God has given you. A simple prayer you pray might go like this: Lord, You established the church, it is important. Please help me to make a regular practice of going to church. Please show me how to get involved in my church in order to grow and to serve You.
Cathedral of Life will help you grow through the faithful teaching of God’s Word. As a new believer, you are sure to have questions about what the bible means. You are just beginning to discover the basics of the Christian faith. You need to be fed from God’s Word and given spiritual instruction. If you don’t have a church home, we invite you to join us at Cathedral of Life. Each week you will grow as you engage in worship and learn practical teachings from the Bible.
These steps have one purpose: to lead you to become a fully devoted follower of Christ. It doesn’t have to be complicated, just develop your relationship with God just like you would with anyone you love: spend time with Him, ask for His help, and do what matters to Him.

Please let us know if we can answer any questions to help you get connected to the great things waiting for you at Cathedral of Life Ministries!
